Support the local game, comic and gamer-friendly stores in and around Charlotte, NC – Part 3

And we return to our local game tour! We won't be able to share all of them in one post so stay tuned for more!

Here’s the ones you may see our convention flyers at. Be sure to tell them you saw them promoted by Mythic Con.

Red Fox Gaming

Next we go to the land of Hickory, NC. Red Fox Gaming is located at 2111 Catawba Valley Blvd SE, Hickory, NC.

They are primarily a video game store where you can buy, sell, or trade your video games. From retros and classics to new releases they probably have it. (or can get it!) They cover a range of consoles from the classic NES and Sega Master System up to the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

But of course they do more than just buy and trade video games! They carry Funko POP's, collectible statues, licensed plush, and novelty gaming room products such as door mats, mugs, clocks, and more. And they carry the Pokemon card game!

You can also find photos of recent trades and events on their facebook page

Time Tunnel Comics

We now head north and west from Charlotte to visit a store that has no gaming but lots of cool stuff. (But we feel like we've established that gamers like LOTS of different things, and many game stores carry comics, so this shouldn't be a surprise.) Welcome to Time Tunnel Comics! Time Tunnel is located at 265 2nd Ave SE in Hickory, NC.

Time Tunnel has a lot, no seriously, they really do! They have a large supply of new comics and sorted back stock; hundreds of trade paperbacks; tons of collectible figures (such as Pop figures, Marvel Legends and Selects, DC direct and Multiverse). And they pride themselves on their subscriber rates. If you would like to sign up and never miss an issue of your favorite on going series (while getting a good deal), contact Time Tunnel Comics!

Find out more on their website and their facebook page.

Pixies Keep Toys and Games

We are now heading southwest from Charlotte. Today we are visiting Pixies Keep Toys and Games! They are located at 2 N Congress St Suite 102 in downtown York, SC.

Pixies Keep started with a realization that York needed something for families—both the adults and kiddos. A toy store! They offer a unique selection that includes LEGO, Calico Critters and Wizards of the Coast.

Everyone can let their imaginative and fun side loose here! Go back in time with comic books and action figures from your childhood (or introduce your kids to them), have fun playing the latest editions of Magic the Gathering or Dungeons and Dragons. Kids can compete in Pokemon tournaments, Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons demos, and plenty of toys and costumes to play with (or in)!

The best thing of all? Pixies Keep has plenty of tables so come play with LEGO, board games, or card games or - just come and chill. They'd love for you to go visit them!

For more information visit their webpage: or their facebook page.

Dead Elf Collectibles

Next, we highlight another game store right here in Charlotte! Dead Elf Collectibles is located at 5309 E Independence Blvd F in Charlotte, NC.

Dead Elf Collectibles is a collectible card game wonderland. From Pokemon to MtG they seem to have it all! They also have a good selection of Warhammer as well! (That might explain the awesome play area they have, 40k players need a lot of space!) And they have other collectibles as well.

Find out more information at their webpage or their facebook page.

A. Pennysworth Comics, News & Collectibles

The next store we are visiting is A Pennysworth Comics, News & Collectibles! A. Pennysworth is located at 11025 Monroe Rd Suite d in Matthews, NC.

Since the store was founded in 1999, they haven't strayed from their mission to bring the best comics—old and new—to Charlotte. They carry other collectibles as well, including collectible statues, toys, Funko pops, and graphic novels.

Find out more on their webpage and their facebook page.

Parker Banner Kent & Wayne – Comics and Games

We head north of Charlotte for this next game store. Parker Banner Kent & Wayne - Comics & Games or PBKW (as us locals call it) is located at 21500 Catawba Ave Suite A in Cornelius, NC.

We love this quote from the owner, Matt, "Originally the name would be Parker Kent Murdock and Wayne but it didn’t seem to flow as well for me… and Matt Murdock was already in a law firm. The name is long… it doesn’t scream comics and games… but you can see it in the eyes when the name clicks and all falls into place." So true, Matt, so true! We remember the first time it clicked for us!

PBKW has been a Charlotte area staple for years. They have rpgs, board games, card games, comics, toys, a kobold guarding a mimic chest, paints, basing supplies, a large play area, a kobold guarding a mimic chest, dice...did we mention the kobold guarding the mimic chest? 😛 (Yes, we fixate on things.)

Look for their events on their website and their Facebook page.

At PBKW Wednesdays are always a holiday cause its NEW COMICS DAY! 🙂

RC Games

We know we have some Pokémon lovers who attend our con. We have found the perfect store for you! RC Games at 2725 Northwest Blvd P in Newton, NC! They are located northwest from Charlotte, but if you (..cough..**Steve**..cough..) like Pokémon, it is definitely worth the trip!

They carry other tradable card games as well, but its obvious they are Pokémon lovers through and through. AND they have an awesome kid's corner with a console and some toys for kiddos to hang out in.

House of Cards

Now we head north and a little east to House of Cards Winston. They are located at 4007 Country Club Rd # C in Winston-Salem, NC.

@House of Cards Winston has something going every day! No seriously, they have a weekly event schedule! Take a look at their calendar on their webpage and their facebook page.

They have cards, rpgs, accessories and board games! And they have a large play area. If you are from Charlotte, head up to Winston-Salem and check out House of Cards.

Remember Luck Factory Games from our Charlotte Game store tour?? Well they are going to be AT Mythic Con!!!!

They are going to be running several games (Blood on the Clocktower, Clank! Catacombs, Horrified: Universal, and Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza) AND are available to help anyone learn new games!!

They will be set up in the Gallery so be sure to go by and say hi! They are really excited to be a part of Mythic Con and to meet everyone.

Oh! And if you want to be guaranteed a spot, search for LFG on Tabletop.Events! Spaces are limited, so act now!

Warhammer 40k Combat Patrol added to the schedule!

Space Marines surrounded by enemies

The Emperor of Man is calling only the bravest, most loyal to servants to fight the armies of Chaos and Xenos! (Or maybe you want to fight the Imperialist Empire of Man? We are good with that too! We don't take sides.)

We are excited to announce Warhammer 40k Combat Patrol as been added to our schedule!

This is a perfect opportunity to test out 40k if you've ever been curious. If you are a seasoned vet to 40k, bring your own combat patrol squads and get some skirmishing in!

You can find these on tabletop.events by searching for either Warhammer or 40k.

Support the local game, comic and gamer-friendly stores in and around Charlotte, NC – Part 2

And we return to our local game tour! We won't be able to share all of them in one post so stay tuned for more!

Here’s the ones you may see our convention flyers at. Be sure to tell them you saw them promoted by Mythic Con.

Get Some Game

Get Some Game is located at 1224 Commercial Ave in Charlotte, NC. GSG (as the cool kids call it) has board games, rpgs, card games, figurines, posters, Gundam style model kits, plushies, cool toy dispensers and other things we know we missed. (There is just sooooo much to see here!) Seriously the layout of GSG makes you want to wander around and explore!

GSG is a family loving store with lots of space available for you and the family to play. And they host lots of card game tournaments!

You can even order from the store online.

Check out their Facebook Page for their events.

Spandex City Comics

Did you know Spandex City Comics is celebrating their new location at 8420 Bellhaven Blvd in Charlotte NC? Don't worry they didn't relocate too far away from their original location. Karen estimates its like five to ten minutes (but we've learned that Karen's sense of time and distance isn't that great...use GPS instead of Karen...lesson learned).

Spandex City is very excited about their new location! More gaming space! More inventory! AND more ice cream offerings and iced coffee! (Yes you read that right, you can game and EAT ICE CREAM!) Games, comics and ice cream! A gamers trifecta!

To keep updated with what's going on with Spandex City check out their webpage and their FB page.

Collectibles and Games

We travel north east again to visit Collectibles and Games. We wanted to welcome them to community as they recently opened their first store front at at 409 S Salisbury Ave Unit C in Granite Quarry, NC. They are CCG and vintage video game shop.

Cameron, the owner, is a dedicated Yu-Gi-Oh enthusiast who's been stoking the fires of excitement within the gaming community for the past two years through his successful e-commerce venture.

He's amassed an astonishing collection of over 70,000 cards! His passion for the game is contagious, and his dedication to delivering top-notch experiences to fellow enthusiasts is unwavering.

You can find our more about their store on Facebook

R & B Games, Cards, & Comics

Next we travel north from Charlotte to R & B Games, Cards, & Comics! They are located at 1525 Cinema Dr in Statesville, NC. R&B carries RPGs, board games, card games, Funko Pops, toys, and comics! And they have a great play area!

One thing Karen and Tuna found exciting is that they have packs of old baseball cards! (This might be a Gen X thing, but it brought back memories! Including how ugh the gum was when it was originally made. Can't imagine how it tastes after 20-30 years!)

Check out their event calendar on their Facebook page.

If you can't make it up to Statesville, you can still order from R&B! Take a look at their page.

Ssalesfish Comics

Ssalefish Comics Concord is located at 10099 Weddington Rd Suite 118 in Concord, NC. Ssalefish also has two other stores in NC. Their Winston-Salem store is located at 3232 Silas Creek Parkway Suite 20 in Winston-Salem, NC and they also have a Greensboro location at 1622 Stanley Road Suite 118 in Greensboro, NC.

Ssalefish Comics overlaps the interests of many gamers. They are primarily a comic shop, but also carry collectible toys, graphic novels and some manga publications. (Pro-tip: Schedule your visit around the Speedway's schedule. Take our word for it.)

You can find the Concord store on Facebook: and on their webpage.

FTW Games

Continuing our game store tour, we are again north of Charlotte. FTW Games is located at 112 W Broad St, Statesville in NC. FTW is located in downtown Statesville and the building they are in is AMAZING. Unlike most of our modern world, FTW has kept the original front of the building! You have to walk down the window displays to get to the door. SOOO Cool!

FTW stocks trading card games (like Pokemon and MTG), board games, RPG games, war games (like Warhammer and Star Wars), accessories for gaming (like paints) and they offer by the hour video game play! They have multiple gaming consoles set up in the store—Xbox, PS, and Nintendo Switch! We can see the video games being a huge hit with the kiddos.

Go check them out!

You can find more information and events on their Facebook page. (Tuna is very sad he missed the 40k 10th ed BBQ!)

G2K Games

Today we visit the state to our south! G2K Games - Rock Hill Galleria, SC is located at 2301 Dave Lyle Blvd #130 in Rock Hill, SC. They specialize in video games, especially vintage games and consoles and CCGs like Magic, Pokemon, and others.

But when Nick told us that they have D&D and dice, we really lit up! It's like a nice warm cup of cocoa when you visit your granny. (And we had to change this post from being about a tabletop gamer friendly store to a game store!! Yay! They even have tables set up so you can play in store!)

Their accessories are amazing too. From a D&D coffee mug to this amazing stained glass poster from the Legend of Zelda, you are bound to find something you need.

Go check them out when you wander south!

You can find their events calendar on FB.

Scott’s Collectibles

Next up we have Scott's Collectibles at 942 Cloverleaf Plaza in Kannapolis, NC.

We know there are people who like gaming AND like the sportsball. ;p (Karen is rolling to disbelieve.) Scott's Collectibles is a great spot for you! Or a great spot to get something for the geeks you love!

They buy, sell and trade sports cards and memorabilia, die cast cars, and other autographed memorabilia. They sell card CCGs, like Magic; wargames, like Star Wars and 40k; board games; and a limited selection of RPGs.

Alpha Clash

We have another demo to add to the Gallery! Alpha Clash is a Superhero TCG based on the novel and comic Alpha Clash.

Oh and series two is coming out soon! (Rumor has it series two will be available on Sunday of our convention. Not sure if they will have it for sale at Mythic Con or not, but never hurts to ask!)

Support Charlotte Area Game Stores!

Support the local game, comic and gamer-friendly stores in and around Charlotte, NC

We are excited by the response we’ve gotten from the local stores in Charlotte, NC! In fact, there has been such a great response, we will be breaking our post into multiple posts so we don't overwhelm! Stay tuned for more!

Here’s the ones you may see our convention flyers at. Be sure to tell them you saw them promoted by Mythic Con.

Luck Factory Games

Our first stop along our game store tour is Luck Factory Games. They have LOTS of games you can play! And a selection of games you can purchase!
Luck Factory Games is located in Gibson Mill Market at 305 McGill Ave. N.W., Suite 80, in Concord, NC 28027. (Tuna says it is a really cool place!)

Luck Factory Games was founded in 2021 on the simplicity of fun, good vibes and connection with others. They strive to create an environment where all skill levels of gamers are welcome and encouraged to meet new challenges, make new memories and enjoy some down time with good people. If you don’t know how to play, they’ll teach you. If you don’t have a game group, they’ll help you find one…and offer you some tasty snacks while you play. Yum! Snacks!

In addition to small groups, they also host private parties and events up to 30 people. Go to their website and reserve your table!

Buzz City Games

What do you get when you combine an old bank building with lots of games and puzzles? Buzz City Games! They are located in an old bank building at 4 Union St N in downtown Concord, NC 28025. They still have the big bank vault! (There's a smaller one tucked into a corner by the window as well.)

Buzz City Games has almost everything a gamer could want. Tables to play at, restrooms, refreshments, tons of board games, D&D stuff, RPG stuff, Warhammer stuff, puzzles and squishables! (They were smart and didn't put any beds in there otherwise the gamers would never leave!)

They will help you sell your used games and will give you $5 store credit if you bring back a puzzle you bought from them! (They do have some fun puzzles.) Go check them out. Event calendars and other info can be found on their Facebook page.

Oh and Richard wanted to mention that parking can be a little tricky the first time you drop by. Because they are in downtown, there's not a lot of street parking, but there is a parking garage a block away that is free! (He prefers the parking garage because you don't have to parallel park! :P)

Rebel Base Comics & Toys

Next we highlight a gamer friendly store! Rebel Base Comics & Toys has been a Charlotte staple since 1994. They are located at 701 S Sharon Amity Rd in Charlotte, NC. You will need to head downstairs to find them. (When Karen goes she likes to pretend she's visiting a fellow nerd in their mom's basement. But this is waaay cooler than any mom's basement she's ever been in.)

Rebel Base has an amazing amount of collectibles and they are stocked from floor to ceiling with cool stuff. They also travel to comic conventions, so you may have seen them at Charlotte Comic Con.

Go check out them out! More information and events can be found on their Facebook page.

The Mighty Meeple

This game store is well known in the north side of Charlotte, The Mighty Meeple! If you haven't gone by there, you are missing out. (And no, living on the south side isn't an excuse! 😛 Expand your world! Go north!)

As they are hosting all kinds of tournaments (MTG, 40K, Age of Sigmar, MCP and more), they have a laaaarge play space. We haven't gone in and measured, but we think it may be larger than the actual store? Why you may ask? Because the Mighty Meeple believes in supporting the gamer community. And gamers need space! And check out the refreshments they have while you are there, you won't be disappointed.

Go check the store out at 8440 Pit Stop Ct. in Concord, NC! Its past Concord Mills and on the right.

Check out their Facebook page for events, releases and more.

Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find

Heroes Aren't Hard To Find is the next store we are highlighting. Located at 417 Pecan Ave in Charlotte, Heroes has been a Charlotte staple since 1980! While you won't find any games at Heroes, you will find a huge selection of comics and comic related items. (Nick thinks most of us can agree there is a large overlap of comic lovers and gamers!) Go check them out!

Heroes Aren't Hard to Find also hosts their own convention: Heroes Con! Heroes Con is happening June 14-16, 2024 at the Charlotte Convention Center. Mark your calendars, tickets will be going on sale soon!

You can find more info, including a list of all the cons they are attending, on their webpage

Comic Monstore

Next store we are highlighting is Comic Monstore! They are located north east of Charlotte at 813 Jake Alexander Blvd S in Salisbury, NC.

How often do you get to play a game in a dungeon themed room?!?!? Comic Monstore has comics, toys, games, gaming accessories, and cards! But they have gone one step further, they have rented the space next door and converted it into dungeon themed gaming rooms! Seriously, you HAVE to check this out! Grab your gaming group and go make a day of it! (Just make sure you leave the bathroom spotless, or the dragon will NOT be happy.)

(Tuna's wallet wants to warn you all about the 50% off table in the back. It is much lighter after Tuna discovered the table.)

Don't forget to check out their Facebook page as well!

Victory Point

Next on our game store tour is Victory Point Game Store in Gastonia! They are located at 2212 Union Rd Suite 600 in Gastonia, NC 28054. Victory Point has to be one of the cleanest game stores we've ever been in! Its so well organized that they don't use the GW stands for their paints, they have their own rack that matches the rest of the store!

One thing to definitely look for while you are there — their dice display. They have high end dice displayed like jewelry on nice stair stepped stands in their glass cabinet. Definitely worth a look and taking one or two for a roll.

They host a lot of card tournaments in the adjoining gaming room. Be sure to check out their calendar on their facebook page.

Your Local Game Store

Today we highlight Your Local Game Store. YLGS is a Charlotte staple for those who live on the east side of Charlotte. If you don't live on the east side, then head to the east side and drop in! They are located at 6908 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd #350 in Mint Hill, NC.

Are you like us and don't have a good place to host a game? Would you like to have a private room to run your game in? YLGS has got you covered! They have several PRIVATE rooms you can reserve (see their webpage for more info)!

They have board games, RPGs, Magic and other card games, Games Workshop products, dice and other things that you didn't know you needed. (Trust us, you NEEEEED them!)

Oh! And if you are looking for a game and don't mind it being used, check out their consignment area. There's some good deals there. (Or if you want, sell something that has been collecting dust on your shelves!)

You can find events on their Facebook page.

Demo Update!

We are excited to announce we have another demo in the Gallery area! And a few additions to Clarion Games demo.

Unyielding Universe

2-4 players attempt to make long and beautiful lifelines. They achieve this by drawing "Year" cards and then placing them within their lifeline chronologically, either by adding them at the end or replacing them. All the while the Universe will try to make their lives more challenging and complex. "Universe" cards that add a scoring adjustment or a gameplay modifier will be drawn, or "Life Complete" cards will be drawn and wreak havoc on your lifeline, not allowing you to play cards past a certain age.

The goal is to score the most points at the end of the round. Scoring factors in the length of your lifeline as well as the quality of your lifeline.

Life is challenging and it is up to us to try and make the best of it, even if we must spite the Universe to do so.

Henchman

Clarion Games will be running their hilarious cooperative backstabber Henchman! A light, fast-playing card game for 2-6 players featuring player interaction, some backstabbing, and a healthy dose of humor. Picture the office meets Sword & Sorcery. Work for an Evil Overlord—a tyrannical, ruthless, megalomaniacal villain bent on world domination. launch an epic competition of subterfuge, deceit, and backstabbing to prove who is most worthy to become the next Henchman!

Four Horsemen: the Omega Wars

In 2025, aliens make first contact with Earth. They've arrived hoping to find a rich new source of resources or advanced technological trading partners. After all, they've detected deep space probes and evidence of space travel. Needless to say they're disappointed

Now 100 years later, humanity has made a name for itself as tenacious and resourceful mercenaries. Unable to face most aliens hand to claw, they've developed powered combat armor known as CASPers, Combat Assault Systems Personal. These 8 foot tall, half ton combat suits have given humanity a serious edge, and the aliens are tired of it.

In a carefully coordinated plot, Earth has been invaded, and the human merc armies fled in order to survive. With Earth occupied, the Omega War is underway. The future of Earth, her few tiny colonies and all of our people's lives are at the stake. This is the Omega War

The Four Horsemen: Omega War is a tactical, strategic and operational competitive card game for two to four players set in the Four Horsemen literary universe created by Chris Kennedy and Mark Wandrey. It is a brutal struggle for power that rewards both careful planning and bold execution as you assume the role of a Commander for one of the various factions.

Restoration Games’ Return to Dark Tower

And just for fun, Clarion Games be bringing and running Restoration Games’ Return to Dark Tower too!

For an age, the tower lay in ruins. Unbeknownst to the people of the realm, a great evil stirred in its bowels. It started with strange sightings: a flock of crows flying in circles until they dropped from the sky, the lake frozen solid in the height of summer. In time, they could not deny that which they most feared.

The evil had not been vanquished. The darkness would soon fall again. The tower will rise.

A "sequel" to the 1981 grail game, Return to Dark Tower is a game for 1-4 players who take the role of heroes. Together, they gather resources, cleanse buildings, defeat monsters, and undertake quests to build up their strength and discern what foe ultimately awaits them. When the heroes face the tower, the game shifts into its dramatic second act, where the players have one chance to defeat the enemy once and for all.

The game features both cooperative and competitive modes of play.

The game features traditional game mechanisms, such as engine building and resource management, paired with a technological interface unlike any seen before in games, including the titular tower, which holds more than a few secrets.

Game Demos at Mythic Con 2023

We are hosting some amazing game demos during our convention. Be sure to go by the gallery and check out these games!

Rocket Fire: A Space Exploration Board Game

A competitive family "turns base" dice and card game for 2 to 4 players. In Rocket Fire, the goal is to become the first player with six or more rockets ready to launch into outer space.

Fuel the Fire

Undermine other players and give yourself explosive advantages with Power Cards. After resolving dice rolls and with enough chips, players can take control of the game using as many power cards in their hands as they can afford.

Still, everyone starts somewhere, and these actions can’t just be used right away. The first round differs as each players prepares their strategy and their hand with the resources available at the start of the game. However, for every round after the first, the gloves are off, and the scheming begins!

Eyes to the Skies

Though creating setbacks for other players can be fun, don’t lose sight of your ultimate goal: becoming the innovator that sends six or more rockets into the endless web of space and discovering all of its secrets.

TROSS

Tournament Saturday

Twice Alive Games is bringing back TROSS. TROSS is Viking chess/checkers. But unlike usual checkers, the objective is not to eliminate your opponent's pieces, but to humiliate by capturing their throne. It’s about the throne, not the pawns. Send the enemy home cowering and dishonored! TROSS is Norwegian meaning “to spite”. You must cleverly outwit your opponent without completely eliminating their pieces. You might have to spite your own pieces to do so.

The listing is for one complete handmade game including the canvas scroll game board featuring rustic stained wood ends, attached with sturdy brass nails and a red stained, wooden box with screen printed TROSS logo. All 20 wooden cube pieces are also hand-stained and are contained in a handy burlap drawstring bag. Game instructions also included.

Your TROSS game board can also be wall hung and displayed as the work of art that it is via the attachment on the back upper wooden end. The game is available with red stained wood ends. The game storage box and wood ends are stained red.

Recommended for ages 8+. Please be advised that small cube game pieces may be a choking hazard for young children. You can pick up TROSS on their website.

Trash Dash

Find some time to go experience Trash Dash. (The critters you can play are sooooo cuuuuuutttttteeee!) Who knew playing with trash could be so fun? (Hint: Karen's cat, Karen's cat knows)

Trash Dash is a fast paced racing card game in which 2-6 players are trash animals competing to be the quickest critter on the streets! Racing laps around an alleyway may seem straightforward enough, but when you’re up against the most mischievous trash animals from across the city you’ll need to stay sharp!

Every game of Trash Dash is filled with playful conflict as the litter critters use their special abilities and hand of Action cards to mess with the other racers. Balancing the tension of that conflict are moments of sudden excitement when a player takes the lead with a well timed Trash card combo or when a player’s risky gamble is rewarded with that perfect roll of the Burst dice! To win on these streets you’ll have to be speedy, savvy, and a little bit scrappy!

No matter who or where you are, we all have one goal in common: Don't Die.

Don't Die is a tabletop roleplaying game about making decisions and avoiding terrible consequences. Focus on conflict over task resolution. You can open the door but will you regret doing so? Create characters quickly, play using a single die, and run in any setting.

They will be running demos on Friday and have a game on the schedule for Saturday morning. Learn it on Friday and play on Saturday! Grab your seat for the game.

Hull Breach!

So, what the heck is Hull Breach?  Well, we're glad you asked that question. Hull Breach is a sci-fi cards-and-dice game featuring epic space combat between ships, firefights between Marine boarding parties, and plenty of clever tactics and galaxy-shaking events. You assume command of a space station belonging to one of our several in-game factions and fight it out with one or more other Commanders to achieve galactic domination! The object of the game is to protect your Station - your home in space - from other Commanders while trying to capture or destroy theirs.  Be warned - they’re trying to do the same thing to you. It's a tough galaxy and at the end of the day only one Commander gets to remain standing.
